2012 Blog Resolutions

Happy New Year, everyone!  I hope your 2012 is off to a good start.  I unplugged for a few days and spent a dozen or so hours in the car this past weekend, which gave me the time to think about some goals I have for this here ol’ blog in the coming year.

And since I need to be held accountable, I’m sharing those resolutions with you.  Here they are, in no particular order:

  • Tweet like I’ve never tweeted before. At the very moment that I am writing this post, I have tweeted exactly 1,000 times (ironic, but true).  My best guess is that 980 of those tweets happened before 2011.  I just haven’t been very hip to the Twitter this year.  Truth be told, I’ve never had many visits from links I post on Twitter, so it’s not the blog traffic I miss…it’s the interaction with all of the cool tweeps (yeah, I said it) out there.  Plus, I just hate it when I am not involved in the conversation, and Twitter is just one big conversation, right?  So, my Twitter friends, please help keep me on track! (And if you’re not following me yet, find me here.)
  • Show a little comment love. Do you know how much I love it when I get a comment on my blog?  I love it.  I love it a lot.  Back at the beginning, I was really good about replying to comments because I cherished each and every one so much, and because there were so few of them.  I still cherish comments, but these days I tend to only reply if a question is asked, and I want to change that.  I mean, hey, you take the time to leave a note.  The least I could do is acknowledge it with a friendly reply, right?  Because my blog is a total side gig and I have a super busy day job, my comment replying will happen in the evenings and on weekends, but it will happen!
  • Be someone’s guest. I’ve had some requests to guest blog in the past year and I’ve pretty much passed them all by.  Back in 2010 I did some posts for Goodwill of Northern New England and some other blog pals, and that was fun.  So this year I want to make myself at home in some virtual guest rooms, and you get to come along.
  • Get around.  Last year I met my blog pal Laura and that rocked.  So, I’d like to meet a few more of my blog friends.  And guess what!  I have plans to do just that.  I’m headed to BlogHer ’12 in NYC this August with blogger extraordinaire Heather (seen here and here) and I hope to meet many more of my “pen pals” there.  We’ll definitely have some fun and hopefully learn a thing about this blogging industry while we’re at it.

And that is where my blogging head is at these days.  Not too earth shattering, but definitely full of genuine enthusiasm.  Here’s to another year of blogging in 2012!

Love these! I, too, have been super-bad about replying to comments. And I (used to) love twitter, but I’m not sure I have anything important to say in 140 characters or less. Maybe it’s time to head back?

How fun for you that you’ll be at BlogHer! I’m jealous of all of the pen pals that’ll get to meet you! :) Maybe some year we’ll have to head up to Maine on one of our East coast roadtrips… :)

yes yes yes, I need to do all of these things too. Mostly number two. Why is it that this is my #1 hobby but I leave it to the very end of the day to try to get it all done? I need a schedule.

It’s because our hobby can be a black hole of time killing! If I could count the hours I spent blog surfing…

Great resolutions – I’ve fallen off the Twitter wagon and definitely need to reply more. Hope I can join you at BlogHer – I think we’d tear the place up. ;-)

I’d love to go in on some kind of multi-blog link party this year (blog hop?). I’ve never had a link party before (too terrified that no one would link up) and think it would be more fun to team up!

Hey Laura! I hope you can make it to BlogHer, too! I would totally be in on a multi-blog par-tay. We should definitely do that.

Could I request a topic for a future post?

I am beginning to think seriously about having a child, even though it scares the daylights out of me. I am also a planner. I like to think things through before I make the leap. So, how does one learn about daycare facilities or nannies in their own area? None around here seem to have websites, and I don’t want to be the loony bird calling and asking questions before even being pregnant, but I don’t want to get pregnant and then learn that I don’t like my options, or worse, don’t have any. How did you go about finding a daycare?

    Hi Rhey!

I have a feeling that finding childcare in our area is totally different than for most, so I will send you an email in the next few days about how we found our daycare provider!

I’m following you now on twitter, but I’ve tweeted far less than 1,000 times. I also do a very poor job of responding to comments (or emails for that matter).
