12 Days of Christmas: Our tree
I have officially given in to the children in my house. And by children I mean my husband and my baby.
I’m letting go of my visions of a tree with white lights and sparkly silver and white ornaments and I present to you our colorful, comfortable and cushiony Christmas tree.
Green and blue may have greeted you at our door, but inside we’re saying red and green is where it’s at. And I’m embracing imperfection.
We found our tree back on December 4th at a local tree farm. Notice I chose the word “found” and not “cut.” Sure, we went to a cut-your-own tree farm, but this nearly perfect looking tree was pre-cut and calling our names. So, we bought it and vowed that next year Ike will have a true tree cutting experience.
Chris wanted me to pose with Ike and a tree saw, but I thought that wouldn’t be very authentic. So here we are sans saw.
Once we got the tree in its stand and brought it inside, I got to work decorating. The bottom half of the tree looks pretty sparse due to Ike’s mischievous hands, but the top three quarters of the tree are full.
In addition to my felt ornaments, I also invested in some other family-friendly ornaments like these soft and cushiony pieces from two local crafty ladies from the Beattie Chicks Makery.
And I found a selection of fun wooden ornaments at Window Panes, one of my favorite local shops.
I couldn’t seem to capture the essence of our tree in my pictures (I need to read up on how to shoot good Christmas tree photos), but it looks much bigger and friendlier in real life. And best of all, my family seems to adore it.
Do you have your tree up, decorated and ready to go? I’m linking up to Sarah’s Christmas Tree Party over at Thrifty Decor Chick, so check out all the trees!
Psst…I’m getting into the holiday spirit by writing 12 holiday themed posts leading up to Christmas. In case you missed it, here are the other posts: Day 1: Felt Ornaments; Day 2: Holiday Door Swag; Day 3: Coconut Snowball Cookies…

I love the mish-mash of ornaments! I bet Ike loves it! His little sweater jacket is adorable, too. We also have a mish-mash of lights (both white and colored) since some strands were broken when we unpacked the decor. I’m dealing with it.

Love your tree, Erin! Ours is very similar. Although I love a good “designer” tree with matching ornaments and a color scheme, I believe the best trees are the ones with a collection of ornaments that tell the stories of the places we’ve been and the times in our lives.

Love the tree! And my hubby would be thrilled with it. He loves the colored lights! Great idea to include so many cushy ornaments. Less risk of breakage. Although I’d be afraid my pups might think they are toys. =)

Beautiful tree! I actually really dislike the designer matchy-matchy Christmas trees. I love a tree that has collected, colorful, family ornaments. Lovely!

It’s perfect Erin Kay. Save the “designer” tree idea later in life, soon you’ll have little hand-made ornaments by Ike and it will be the way to track his childhood. XO
