Fabulous fabric finds

Remember last week when I said that the sewing supplies I needed for my DIY nursing cover cost only $5?  Well, make that $20 if you count the $15 I spent on some other fun fabric that I couldn’t pass up on my quick browse around my local fabric shop (Sewing by the Sea, in case you’re ever driving through Trenton, Maine).

These two fabrics are not meant to coordinate; don’t worry.

I’m not sure if it was all the cute aviary inspiration in Laura’s guest post a while back, or just coincidence, but both of these fabrics feature birds.  I’ve never bought bird fabric before and then two in one day!?

Here is the first one, which I’m thinking will make perfect pillow covers for some throw pillows on our red sofa.  It’s hard to tell in this picture, but it has great tones of gray mixed in there.  I actually surprised myself by being drawn to this fabric, but it is just so bright and fun…I had to have it.  Had to.

And this fabric could work for something in our current master bedroom, or in the spare room that is our future guest room.

It looks great against the paint in our future guest bedroom (Behr Pensive Sky).  It coordinates, but isn’t matchy-matchy.

And speaking of coordinating, this fabric also goes with the Amy Butler fabric that I have leftover from this nursery project.

Now I just need to decide what to make!

Oh, and I tried to find links to both fabrics online, but didn’t have great luck.  The first one is called Nest by Valori Wells and the second is Prospect Park by Kitty Yoshida (which also comes in different  color combinations).   If you’re interested, maybe your local fabric store can find them for you!

I never find fabrics that I just love and feel compelled to bring home with me… *sad face* My fabric searches usually culminate in me buying something that is “just ok” and then hating it once I’ve spent hours working on the project. Boo. I love both of these choices, though!

I love fabric shopping! I have a huge stash of “it’s pretty, I’ll use it some day”…but then I’m always too afraid to cut into it. I went fabric shopping over the weekend for a baby quilt and was really proud when I walked out with only 1 extra piece.
