Craigslist Dresser: Round 1

I really didn’t intend to share any photos of my Craigslist dresser makeover until it was complete, you know, for a stunning before and after effect.  But, I haven’t quite gotten around to the last couple of steps and I figured you’re probably dying to see it anyway.  I know you’ve been at the edge of your seat for weeks.  Right?  Thought so.

So, the last time you saw the dresser it was fresh from being picked up and in a rather needy state:

As you might remember, this dresser is destined for the nursery to become a bright and cheerful storage piece/changing table.  I’m happy to report that the bright and cheerful part is well underway now that the drawers have received all of the priming they need (I skipped my trusty oil-based primer this time and went with Zissner’s Bulls Eye water-based primer and sealer that claims to stick to any surface), plus a few coats of Dandelion Wish by Valspar.

Yes, the color is definitely school-bus yellow, and I think Chris is rather scared.  But, look how well the color coordinates with some of the fabric that will be used in the nursery…

I decided to let the primer really “cure” on the base part of the dresser, which is why it’s been sitting there primed for about two weeks.  But doesn’t it already look much better?

And do you remember that one corner that was in really rough shape?

A little wood filler and some sanding was all I needed to fix it up.  Now it’s like new (well sort of)…

I’m convinced it wont even be noticeable once I get that yellow paint on.

So, that is the current state of my furniture makeover.  Have you cleaned up any old pieces lately?  Leave a link to your blog in the comments if you have any projects to share!

If you hadn’t pointed out that the corner was so beat up before you posted the after picture, my unprofessional eye would have never noticed the difference. You did a great job of fixing it.

Great job on refurbishing the dresser and fixing that corner. You also got a deal considering that the dresser is all wood and not particle board.

Look forward to seeing the finished product.

I’m currently dying over the fabric. Could they be any cuter??? The dresser is going to be AWESOME.

So excited to see how this is turning out! I wanted to do yellow in our nursery, but my husband had an irrational fear of the color. It’s turning out great!!

Wow! I just linked to your posting through Ada’s Interior Design site, and have fallen in love with your dresser re-do. It looks great painted, and even more fantastic with the number knobs. Such a terrific find, and so much better with your hard work.

    Nice job!
