Nursery Inspiration

With last week’s announcements about our growing family and second floor expansion, it’s no surprise that we have a nursery in the works.  While the paint and decorating may be a few weeks away, I’ve been busy scouring blogland for inspiration.  Little did I know, Apartment Therapy’s OhDeeDoh site is basically one-stop-nursery-inspiration-shopping. Here are some of the pictures that are striking my mother-to-be chord…

First off, I am loving this DIY approach to a little library.  I think a pair of these book slings are definitely in my future.  (And I love that this particular nursery sports a little elephant doll similar to the one that will live in our nursery!)

When it comes to inexpensive, colorful wall art, I am intrigued by the idea of fabric displayed in embroidery hoops, as seen here…

I’ve been seeing a lot of nurseries with a mix of lanterns and tissue paper flowers, and I love it.  What a fun and simple design that serves as a larger-than-life mobile.

I love the idea of refinishing a plain old dresser with a bright pop of color like Dusty did here.  And the storage above the changing area is right up my alley.  Really, if I were having a girl, I would pretty much want to copy her whole nursery.  No pastels, for me please!

How cute are these little stenciled numbers?  Something like this would be a great way to embellish a few empty wall spaces…

And finally, I think a DIY ottoman is definitely calling my name.  It can’t be that hard to make, right?

Want to check out some of these nurseries yourself?  Here are the Ohdeedoh tours (or blogs) that correspond with each photo:  1) Leighton’s nursery 2) Graham’s nursery 3) Hadley & Kohen’s room 4) Kate’s nursery 5) Clark’s room 6) and Graham’s nursery again.

What do you think about the items I’ve picked out?  Any nursery ideas of your own to share?  Please, send ‘em over!

I love those pictures! I am a big fan of gray and yellow right now; I redid our powder room in those colors and love it. I took an approach to our nursery that you might want to check out. It’s on the blog! Have fun planning!

These are all adorable. I totally agree about loving vibrant colors instead of pastels. Can’t wait to see what you do.

  3. I love that take on a book shelf. I can’t wait to see what you do! And I’m with you on the pastel boycott – no thank you!

My computer has been broken for two weeks, so here is a late CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

That book sling is perfect – if I had any crafty/sewing skills I’d definitely make one – my boys love books!

Are you going to find out the gender before the baby is born, so you can decorate the nursery? Can’t wait to see the finished project (the baby and the nursery – ha! :)

Thanks, Janna! We are expecting a boy, so the nursery will definitely reflect that!
