Too hot to (not) handle
I hate seeing pieces of cute fabric go to waste or hide in my closet. So, as I was pulling together the finishing touches for the apron that I was making for a bridal shower gift, I decided to whip up a coordinating pot holder.
It matches just perfectly with a version of this apron that I made for the bride-to-be…

Making the pot holder was very easy. I made up the entire process, so I’m not sure if it’s the best approach, but it worked for me! I just cut and sewed the pieces to make two 10-inch squares. I cut a piece of batting (leftover from the quilt and bench cushion projects) that was about 9 inches square.
I folded and ironed over about 1/2 inch all the way around on both pieces of fabric, pinned everything together and sewed diagonal lines and then around the edge. Before I sewed around the corner, I stuck the loop in, which I had made by just folding and sewing a single strip of fabric.
In addition to the Pioneer Woman cookbook, I also added these adorable little measuring spoons to the gift basket…
I had received a set for my shower and while I don’t necessarily use them all the time, they are super cute. I find them at my local shops, like Rooster Brother in Ellsworth, Maine, and Window Panes in Bar Harbor, Maine.
On another note, it is hard to find the correct spelling of pot holder! Is it one word, is it two, or is it hyphenated? Dictionary.com seemed to show it as one word, but I just couldn’t do it. I think it should be two words, and so it is.
Have you ever made a pot holder? What are your favorite little things to give for a bridal shower?

omg, cutest bridal shower gift ever. Serious. I love it. I’m so lame when it comes to shower gifts. I love to receive gifts like that but end up giving the toaster off the registry. Anyway, consider yourself invited to my next shower. hehe.

Great gift! I think I need to make a pot holder. I usually do a gift off the registry and/or a hand painted frame with the couples monogram.

I bought some fabric on clearance a few months ago, and ended up needing to buy more than I really wanted. (There was a minimum yardage, I think.) I was already planning to make an apron out of it, but maybe I’ll also make a hotpad.
Hotpad is one word, and solves your spelling/spacing/hyphenating dilemma.

That’s just an adorable combination. Nicely done.

Erin, you are so crafty! I love it. The only pot holders I’ve made are the ones that are made from loops of fabric that you weave together on a small square loom. Forget what the loom is called, but I made a bunch when I was a kid and they lasted forever. They’re my mom’s favorites, so she recently had me weave a few more for her.

Laura,
I had one of those looms too! My sisters and I made all kinds of pot holders that way. I also forget what it was called…

I love the fabric you chose, and those measuring spoons are adorable! I’m all about useful when it comes to showers… so whatever little collection I can make from the most useful gifts on the registry. Boring, but practical! *lol* I save the fun gifts for other occasions!

What an amazing gift. Both the apron and pot holder are just fabulous. I once saw someone give personalized address labels with the bride’s new name as part of their shower gift. It was adorable!

I love the pot holder, apron, and measuring spoons as a shower gift! How creative and thoughtful!
Those are the best gifts!!! I used to make pot holders all of the time when I was a little girl for my grandmother! I used these strings that were looped and woove it on a pot holder sized thing. Haha…that sounded so intelligent! Anyways, good job! Hope all is well! I love reading what you are up to!
