For the love of melamine

You thought our budget bathroom makeover was complete, didn’t you?  Well it was until I walked by the perfect mustard yellow melamine plates (on clearance) in the Better Homes and Gardens section of Wal-Mart.

There I was, walking towards the electronics section to pick up a Wii game for Chis’ birthday when these literally jumped out and grabbed me.  Funny how shopping for others always results in something for me…

Anyway, at $1.50 a piece, I couldn’t say no.  As fast as I had them in my hot little hands, I had them on the wall in the bathroom.  A dab of hot glue and a d-ring left over from the towel rack project was all it took.

What do you think?  Does the glossy melamine do the trick?

While we’re talking about melamine, I must mention a fabulous use of this wonder plastic product by my blog friend Jen at Home in the Country.  She turned this $2.50 Target bowl into a light fixture!

I also wouldn’t mind having this cute canister set in our kitchen, courtesy of Target’s Liberty of London melamine line…

Have you decorated with any melamine products lately?  Do you think it’s completely tacky, or are you all about it like I am?  I’d love to hear what you think!

I love those plates! I am looking for some for our kitchen and didn’t even think of looking at Wal-Mart. Great find.

Honestly, when I read “melamine,” I thought “tacky,” but then I looked at the photos. The plates make a terrific and colorful addition to your bathroom. Clever idea to hot glue the hooks on the back. Thanks for the inspiration!

Erin, I think you did a great job thinking OUTSIDE the box, and I agree the plates look perfect in your bathroom.

This whole time I’ve been on the lookout for like…specific antique porcelain plates when these look AMAZING! Gluing the hook is also a great idea. I know what I’m doing today!

I love those plates – they’re perfect for your space!

In related news, I rarely wander into Wallyworld, but was there the other day and was super-shocked by the cuteness of some of the BHG stuff.

Thanks for the shout out! :) I love those melamine containers… And I’m happy to report that I’m now the proud owner of some of the liberty of london office storage pieces, compliments of my sweet in-laws who brought them as a housewarming present when they came to visit us this week!

I’m in love with melamine. It’s so lightweight and easy to transport! Crate and Barrel has a slew of melamine products in fun colors and in their basic white! Check out these fun plates! http://tinyurl.com/y6lnbc5

    Too cute.

Also, I LOVE your blog. It’s my kind of perfection!
