Addicted to aprons
I have to admit, ever since my mom made me a super cute apron for Christmas (seen here), I’ve been rather obsessed with the idea of making my own. I forewarned you a few weeks ago that I was taking on an apron sewing project, but who knew this simple and easy project would start an addiction?
Taking the easy way out, I opted for making a half apron. I followed Amy Butler’s Domestic Goddess apron pattern and made this one…
That came together so easily and I had leftover fabric so I made another, and then this one, too.
Then I decided I wanted to try to make my own, slightly-altered style. I’m less of a ruffle/pleat kind of girl, so I removed the pleats around the waist. I also simplified the process by making the pockets triangles instead of curvy half-moons (the more straight lines on my sewing machine, the better!). I kept the towel hook, but used the larger print instead of coordinating it with the pockets. I made the ties a bit shorter and made them arrow-shaped. Finally, I shortened up the pattern and cut a few inches off the width, as well.
Now I have my own new pattern to follow! I like the sleeker look of my pattern a bit better, but the colors from the first two pull at my heart strings.
Oh, and now my version of the apron is available for sale!
What do you think? Do you have a favorite? Am I crazy for making so many aprons?

Oh I love those. I’ve been wanting to make a half apron for some time. I like them better as they don’t bunch up around my chest. Gorgeous fabric too!

Adorable! I am also an apron addict! In fact, I have to avoid certain websites and stores, or else I’ll spend all our savings on aprons that I don’t actually need

How adorable! I wish I knew how to sew. I supose that will have to be part of my own “domestic adventure” at some point or another.
But I’m still trying to figure out how to work my iron! You’re definitely not crazy for making so many. In fact, I bet you could sell those. Super cute!

I like your version with out the pleats much better. The shorter length is good too. Maybe it’s a favorite because of the cuter print!

I love them. Will you make me one?

So cute! My mom made me loads of aprons when I was little because I helped her and my grandma in the kitchen so often. I had a different pattern apron for every season and holiday!

I see a new business potential Erin. Absolutely adorable.

I love the first one b/c I am partial to pink.
They are all adorable…I’m a straight-line-sewing kinda girl too. Visiting from Kimba’s DIY Day.

I think I like the last one without the pleats, too. I don’t think you’re crazy for having so many aprons

So cute! An apron is always on my never ending sewing to -do list, but I never seem to get around getting it done. I love all three and you are inspiring me to actually get started!

Kelley and Sara,
Making these into a skirt might take a whole new skill level! But let’s not rule it out!

I think I missed this when I was in Arizona. I just saw you over at Tatertots and Jello and was like, wow! That’s Erin.
Love all these aprons. I’ll trade you an apron for one of my hundred tote bags?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your cute aprons!!

I love your vintage inspired aprons. I have a whole drawer full that I pull out and make others wear while we are cooking. I don’t have any like this. Time to dust off the sewing machine. Hey-if you like to sew, I just did this shirt made from two silk scarves (you may have already seen it, it was featured on Tatertotsandjello yesterday, I think):

Hi Sarah,
I used Amy Butler’s Domestic Goddess Apron pattern for the top two pictured in this post. Hope it helps!
