Hostess Gift: Logs o’ dough

If you came to my door bearing gifts of food this week, I would have to turn you away.  I might even have to push you down the stairs.  Into the snow.  I mean, how many more calories can I consume in cookies this week?

Even with this in mind, I somehow thought it was perfectly acceptable to prepare a food gift for our Christmas Eve hosts.  After all, Heather and Eric are nice and they would never push us down the stairs.  Right?

When searching the wide world of internet for a hostess gift idea, I came across logs of homemade cookie dough.  The idea was just too darn cute to pass up.  So, I armed myself with supplies and made up some logs o’ dough:

I don’t have any extra special cookie recipes, so I just snagged recipes off the bags of morsels.  I made the Oatmeal Raisin Cookie recipe on the back of the Hershey’s cinnamon chips and the classic Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe (you know, the one in the Friends episode “The One with Phoebe’s Cookies”? Please tell me you grew up on Friends like I did? And that you know the names of episodes?).

In less than 20 minutes I had whipped up both batches, divided them into logs, and rolled them in my favorite product ever (Glad Press’n Seal Wrap).  Then I hand wrote the recipes onto cardstock, complete with the essential baking instructions.

To make the packaging a bit more snazzy, I wrapped my logs once again, this time with waxed paper.  Then I secured the recipes around the logs, and topped them with bows and ornaments.  I went with a simple presentation so that our hosts could quickly identify what the logs were.  No hostess that I know wants to do a lot of unwrapping.

I’m hoping that our hosts won’t see these logs o’ dough as extra holiday calories, but as something they can pop in the fridge or freezer until the next snow day when the idea of baking (and eating) is actually appealing again.  What do you think?  Would you push me down the stairs?  You can tell me the truth.

I hope that your Christmas Eve is filled with holiday cheer and as many cookie calories as you want!  Merry Christmas!

I love this idea and am totally going to steal it this year! Great idea to decorate them with ornaments. And this way, the recipients can have warm, fresh-baked cookies whenever they want!

This is a cute idea and would pair perfectly with a jar of homemade hot chocolate mix!
