Give Thanks Jars
Last week I came across a little challenge from Kim at NewlyWoodwards and clearly couldn’t wait to jump in. She and Emily over at Imperfect have organized a really creative way for bloggers to connect while getting ready for the holidays. We are each working on a weekly challenge posed by Kim, then sharing our handwork via blog…it’s a bonafide blog party!
This week’s challenge is “dare to be thankful,” with the goal of crafting a Thanksgiving project. Eager to finally take the Halloween decor out of the entryway, I dreamed up a project to dress up the foyer table for Thanksgiving. Without further ado, here is a close up of the finished product:

Nothing screams harvest to me more than some classic Ball canning jars. They remind me of the late summers and falls of my childhood when we helped my mom can jam, applesauce, pickles and other goodies from the garden. It’s far too early in my domestic adventure for me to be able to do any of the above, so I settle for using the jars as candle holders. (Check back with me in 5 to 10 years to see if I’ve mastered the applesauce…)
To modernize and theme my Ball jars, I used plain white fabric left over from my curtain project, some homemade stencils, bronze fabric paint, a bit of raffia and some votives that were left over from my failed luminaries back at Halloween. Here’s how it went down:

First I printed some large letters onto plain computer paper and used my craft knife to make the stencils. Next, I cut the 10 strips of white fabric. Using my stencils, I sponged some fabric paint onto the cloth, then secured each strip to the jars using some straight pins. I added the finishing touch by randomly tying some raffia around the jars.

If you’re as excited as I am to see what all the other blog partiers came up with for this week’s challenge, then head over to NewlyWoodwards to see all of the creative ideas. Projects will be posted throughout the day on Monday, November 16. Be sure to leave comments for everyone and let us know what you think!

What a great idea! I’ve been loving the “give thanks” banners, and this is such a fun twist on them!
Looks great– so simple and elegant, and a great reminder every time you walk through the door.
Okay… I love this SO much. So clever. I wish I’d have thought of it. I’m thinking I need to do something similar. I have about a million ball jars around.
Thanks for joining in.
I love it and am so impressed that you came up with it by yourself. It looks perfect with the candlelight shining through it!
Beautiful, period. And great tutorial. I think we’re all gonna be stealing this one.
Oh. Oh my. Yeah, I’m kinda in love. It’s perfect. Tucking it inside my head for a Christmas version! Amazing job!
Shannon,
Now that you mentioned a Christmas version I have all kinds of thoughts running through my head! I could envision words like “joy” and “noel,” or a wreath stenciled on. So many options…!

This is so pretty. I love candles and all things candle related. I think a Christmas version would be fabulous.
What a cute idea… I love it, my little mind is wondering now thinking of other phrases that could be used year around! I maybe stealing your idea and using it for a Christmas project, maybe red fabric with cute white letters!
I ab.so.lute.ly. LOVE this! What a smart idea. Most of my jars are filled with fruit for the year, but I’ll have to keep some next year to do this.
